Justina Oraka CV

My background is in education, training and development. I have more than 25 years experience in teaching and also more than 15 years experience in the voluntary and community sector as both a volunteer and employee.

I was the chair person of the Hull Women's Centre for 3 years. I worked for the Hull & East Riding Race Equality Council for 5 years and the Bransholme Women's Centre as employment and training development worker, supporting women into employment, education and training. I managed Preston Road Community Development project for 3 years focusing on capacity building and community involvement.

I worked as community representative of Hull College for 4 years. Prior to engaging in paid employment I volunteered for 7 years in varied areas of work.

I am on the Board of Directors and Trustee of various national and local organisation's including the National Probation Trust; Mental Health Act as a commissioner and also sit on the Commission's Equal Opportunities & Diversity Committee; Local Strategic Partnership (LSP); Founder member & Director of Self Defense Action for Equality (SAFE); Hull Community Meditation; Hull and East Yorkshire Mind; Bransholme Women's Centre; Mental Health Action Group and Northern Hull Community Development Limited, known as Unity in the Community (UIC).

I am a founder member & Chair of Africa Forum and a trustee of HANA (Humber All Nations Alliance). I represented HANA on FOLDA, the Africa Forum on the Ethnic Minority Consultation Group of Job Centre Plus as the Vice Chair and Hull College.

My freelance work entails designing, delivering and facilitating training on issues around personal development, Equality & Diversity and basic employment law. I deliver generic training in equal opportunities/race and cultural awareness and anti oppressive practices. I provide consultancy service - working with organisation's (voluntary, statutory and private) to create workable policies and carry out project review, evaluation and mentoring.

I am a part time Lecturer/Tutor for both Higher & Further Education. This includes: University of Lincolnshire; Workers Educational Association (WEA); Community Learning Services (Adult Education) and Self Defense for Women Action for Equality (SAFE).

In 2001, I won the Adults Tutors Award & Bransholme & District Education Action Zone Learning Award for 'exceptional commitment to all my students and my enthusiasm and obvious joy in encouraging and supporting others to learn.

Through my work, I have had the opportunity to work with many different people from a wide range of backgrounds, abilities and varied organisations. I believe the skills, knowledge and experience I have would be very beneficial to both individuals and organisations.
